Our Favorite Cathedral Engagement Rings
There are two major types of engagement ring styles to choose from when choosing an engagement ring. They are arching cathedral design versus what we like to call the floating style. Both styles have their own unique aspects that make them desirable for certain people’s tastes. At Valeria Fine Jewelry, we create custom engagement rings from the ground up and our clients can select each aspect of the ring to make it totally their own.
What is a Cathedral Setting?
The cathedral setting is one of the most elegant, classic, and consequently, popular engagement ring settings. Similar to the graceful arches of a cathedral, this setting uses arches of metal to hold or frame the diamond or other gemstone. Cathedral rings can be be set with prongs, bezel or tension settings since the determining feature of this ring is not how the center stone is set, but rather how it is elevated with arches above the rest of the ring. The arches can add extra height and make the center stone appear larger; they can also add cost-saving style for less money than adding additional diamonds.
Our Favorite Cathedral Engagement Rings have typically been in white gold, although there are plenty of yellow and rose gold rings as well. The cathedral setting is most popular with the Round Brilliant Cut, but other shapes can be supported by this design as well.

Favorite Split Shank Engagement Rings – Faux Solitaire
This elegant Custom Cathedral Engagement Ring boasts more than meets the eye with the accents on the sides of the ring. This deception add this one to our list of Favorite Split Shank Engagement Rings, besides the fact that it is just a stunning ring!
Our Favorite Cathedral Engagement Rings – Knife Edge

The Bottom Line
For brides looking for a versatile, yet still traditional diamond engagement ring, cathedral rings make an excellent choice. The cathedral settings feature a band that slopes up to around the same level as the girdle or edge of the center diamond. Please note that this only refers to the the sloping of the band. As you can see from the images in this post, the arches can be incorporated in an array of different custom engagement ring designs. In this manner, the cathedral design places the focal point on the center stone.
The cathedral engagement ring is one of the more traditional styles. Yet, it is still a versatile engagement ring style that can be combined with other style and design aspects. This can create stunning, modern rings you won’t find anywhere else. We are in love with our Favorite Cathedral Engagement Rings because of the almost limitless possibilities it provides in terms of customization. If you want to create a ring that is truly yours, these give you one of the best chances to achieve that goal.
